Danube Bend

Budapest is a fascinating and vibrant city, but there is plenty more to see in the countryside beyond. The most obvious tours are to the artists’ colony in Szentendre and to the famous Danube Bend, the most beautiful part of the Hungarian section of River Danube, between Szentendre, a Mediterranean-like town with its colorful houses, narrow alleys and dozens of museums, and Esztergom, famous for its Cathedral, the largest Catholic Church in the country. Visegrád is situated in the most popular holiday district of the Danube Bend, at the foot of the hills around the Danube, north of Budapest, offering a perfect escape from the traffic and noise of Budapest, easily accessible by public transportation. Its settlement has a unique renaissance atmosphere with its ancient buildings, historic monuments and narrow streets. For more information, please visit

Visegrád is rich with natural and historic attractions. There are sites at three levels: the Main Street, the Solomon Tower and the Castle on the top of the hill. The latter offers a wonderful view on the Danube Bend. The palace of the great renaissance ruler, King Mathias (1458-1490), located in a marvelous environment, was one of the most luxurious royal residences of its time, with its renaissance court and the famous Hercules Fountain streaming wine on certain occasions. The five-storey Solomon Tower nearby is among the oldest and most intact Romanesque dwelling towers of Central Europe, with medieval tournaments staged in its yard during the summer.
